Alaska Nursing Schools

The thought of attending a nursing school in Alaska is exciting and overwhelming for many people! The state of Alaska is very different from the rest of the country which makes it seem like another world all together. It is expected that the need for nurses will continue to steadily grow in Alaska as the population begins to age. Prepare for an adventure when you decide to attend a nursing school in Alaska. Let us explore the options from a list of  nursing schools in Alaska that earn top marks.

Alaska Vocational Technical Center

Located in Seward, Alaska the Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC) boosts the Allied Health Department which offers very fine nursing programs to all interested students. This school has partnered with the local health system to support nursing education. This is a good thing because together degree programs and courses are created that support the necessary needs of the local community.

Not only does this school train students who wish to become nurses but also those individuals who wish to become certified nursing assistants (CNA). You can only study to become a LPN at AVTEC and not a RN. The certificate programs offered by this nursing school include the certificate in licensed practical nursing, the certificate in certified nursing assistant and the certificate in certified nursing assistant (which is a reciprocity course).

University of Alaska

The University of Alaska is found in Anchorage, Alaska. While Anchorage is not the capital of the state it does happen to be the largest city in the state. Sometimes referred to as the Municipality of Anchorage an estimated 286, 514 Alaskan residents resided in this city as of 2009. Approximately 40 percent of Alaska’s population call anchorage home. Nurses are needed here and so are nursing students!

The College of Health and Social Welfare’s School of Nursing found at this university offers the high quality nursing education that all future nurses need to succeed. The opportunity for challenge, achievement, personal growth and professional growth can all be found at this educational institution.

The needs of the students as well as the community are taken into consideration when programs are devised. The programs offered here include the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Licensed Practical Nurse, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Registered Nurse and the Master of Science in Nursing.

University of Alaska- Southeast

The University of Alaska-Southeast (UAS) is found in Juneau, Alaska which is the capital city of the state. The Health Sciences Department of this university works in conjunction with the campus in Anchorage (as described above) to offer nursing students in this city the education they are seeking. The only degree program offered here is the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing. Most classes that nursing students require can be taken at UAS but once in awhile travel is required for classes and/or seminars found elsewhere in the state.
