The John Hopkins School of Nursing (which is sometimes written as JHSON) happens to be one of the oldest and one of the most well respected of all nursing schools throughout the United States. It is one of the top ranked research intensive schools of nursing found in the country. It is also one of the top 10 nursing schools in the nation.
The university was ranked second by U.S. News & World Report for its Community Health Nursing programs. It was ranked fourth for its Nursing Graduate programs. Among the nursing schools across the United States, John Hopkins University was named fifth in research funding from NIH.
This is a university that cares deeply about the education and training of its nursing students. Both clinical courses and laboratories at JHSON have low student to faculty ratios. It is the nation’s first baccalaureate Peace Corps Fellows Program in nursing. As high a percentage as 75% of the PhD students at JHSON receive external funding for research once they reach the dissertation stage of their schooling.
The Nursing School at Johns Hopkins has 70 full-time faculty members and 117 part-time members. This nursing school has fewer faculty members than many of the other top 10 schools of nursing but the faculty is viewed as very well trained and highly productive. In fact JHSON ranks sixth in terms of faculty scholarly productivity.
JH University offers programs at the undergraduate level as well as the graduate level. There are two different baccalaureate programs available. There is the 2-year traditional program and the 13.5 month accelerated program.
If it is a Master’s program you are looking for then you have your pick. The school offers the MSN, MSN/MPH, MSN/MBA, MSN/MPH-NP option and the MSN/PhD.
There is also certificate programs offered. These include the Hopkins Business of Nursing, the Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner and the Advanced Forensic Nursing certificate program.
The PhD programs for more advanced and more in-depth study offer Fellowships in Interdisciplinary Violence Research, Health Disparities in Underserved Populations and Interdisciplinary Pain Research.
