Maine Nursing Schools

If you are thinking about a future in the health care profession then you should find out all that a nursing career has to offer you. The state of Maine is a state that tends to be rather quiet and one you do not hear a great deal about. This state however has a selection of colleges and universities that offer nursing programs to all those interested in pursuing this career path. Here we look at a few of the top choices from a list of  nursing schools in Maine. All of these schools offer some of the same but also some different programs to their students. Examples of the program choices include associate programs, as well as bachelor’s programs, master’s programs and doctoral programs.

The University of Maine

The University of Maine’s School of Nursing is to be found in Orono, Maine. It is a well respected university that happens to be the very first school in the state to offer a four year bachelor’s degree program in nursing. Those who study at the undergraduate level have the option of participating in the Army ROTC program. This program is worthwhile to many because it awards scholarships to students who qualify for it.

Besides the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, students who wish to take their education further may study at the University of Maine for their Master of Science in Nursing degree. A student can also attend this school to earn their Advanced Nursing Practice certificate.

University of Southern Maine

The University of Southern Maine is found in Portland. The School of Nursing at the university is a part of the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Students attending this institution of higher learning can study in any of the three nursing programs that the school makes available. There is the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, the Master of Science in Nursing Degree and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree.

This university houses a Learning Resource and Simulation Center that is used for a variety of functions in terms of the training for nursing hopefuls. It provides necessary access to assessment labs, computer labs and simulation labs which are all an integral part of a nurse’s education.

Southern Maine Community College

Southern Maine Community College in South Portland offers a nursing program that is given by the College’s Health Sciences Division. Here students can study for their associate degrees which will then make it possible for them to become registered nurses (RNs) once they complete the program.

Students may finish at Southern Maine Community College and take their licensing examination before looking for work in the nursing field. Another avenue to take is to go on to study for your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at any one of the fine colleges or universities in the state. Besides the ones listed here other appealing options include Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, Husson College and the University of New England.
