The University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) is the largest university found in Chicago. The mission of the UIC College of Nursing is to educate its nurses to become highly competent and compassionate leaders when it comes to clinical practice, healthcare administration and academic scholarship.
The College of Nursing at UIC was founded in 1955 with the preliminary in 1951. The regional campuses include Central Illinois (Peoria-Urbana), Quad Cities and Rockford. The departments found at the school include the Department of Biobehavioral Science, the Department of Health Systems Science and the Department of Women, Children and Family Health Science.
There are many different programs of study offered at the University of Illinois. There is the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) which is for those who wish to become a registered nurse. There is also the RN/BSN option for registered professional nurses who already have an associate degree but now wish to earn a higher level degree.
The Master of Science (MS) program includes an array of options. If you wish to study at the master’s level then you must already have your BSN. You must also decide which area you wish to specialize in. The options for the master’s program include:

• Nurse Midwifery
The school also offers a Graduate Entry Program (GEP). This is a master’s level of study that is appropriate for those who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field but who wish to obtain their RN license. These individuals can then move on to study for their master’s degree in one of the specialties listed above.
At an even higher level of learning then the master’s program is the Doctor of Nursing practice (DNP) that the school offers to its students as well as the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. The opportunities to further your education are many when you enroll at the University of Illinois.

UIC offers certificates in Administrative Nursing Leadership, Advanced Practice Forensic Nursing, Advanced Practice Cardiometabolic Nursing, Advanced Practice Palliative Nursing, School Nurse (Type 73), Teaching/Learning in Nursing and Health Sciences and CNS and NP/Midwifery Post-master’s Certificate.
The University of Illinois-Chicago is the second member of the UIC system. It serves a tremendous number of students within as many as 15 colleges. Within these colleges is the largest medical school found in the United States.
