Approximately 41 percent of the full-time faculty employed at the university hold leadership roles in national organizations. As well, 79 percent of the full-time faculty are doctoral prepared. Another important point about the full-time faculty is that 25 percent are Fellows in the American Academy of Nursing.

The University of Pittsburgh was founded in 1787 and began as a small private school that was originally known as the Pittsburgh Academy.
